Antalya
Antalya is the fifth-most populous city in Turkey. Located on Anatolia’s southwest coast bordered by the Taurus Mountains, Antalya is the largest Turkish city on the Mediterranean coast outside the Aegean region with over one million people in its metroplitian area.
The city that is now Antalya was first settled around 200 BC by the Attalid Dynasty of Permagon which was soon subdued by the Romans. Romans saw Antalya thrive, including the construction of several new monuments. The city has changed hands several times, including to the Seljuks in 1207, Ottoman Empire 1391. The city was occupied by Italy for three years in the aftermath of World War I but recaptured by a newly independent Turkey in the War of Independence
Antalya is Turkey’s biggest international sea resort located on Turkish Riviera. Large- scale develepment and governmental fuding has promoted tourism.
Side – Aspendos – Perge
Side is a city on the southern Mediterranean coast of Turkeu. It includes the modern resort town and the ruins of the ancient city of Side one of the best-know classical sites in the country. It lies near Manavgat and the village of Selimiye 78 km from Antalya. It located on the eastern part of the Pamphylian coast which lies about 20 km east of the moutj of Eurymedon River.
Aspendos or Aspendus was an ancient Greco – Roman city in Antalya province of Turkey. It was situated on the Eurymedon River about 16 KM inland from the Mediterranean Sea, it shared a border with and hostile to the ancient city Side.
Perge or Perga was originally an ancient Lycian settlements that later became a Greek city in Pamphylia. It was the capital of the Roman province of Pamphylia Secunda, now located in Antalya Province on the southwestern Mediterrnean coast of Turkey.
It was the birthplace of the Greek mathematician Apollonius of Perga once of the most notable mathematicians of antiquitiy for his work on conic sections
